Reinventing “Community”: Beyond the Lens of Sameness

What we have learned is how vital the importance of community is to our growth. No no, not the communities that we belong to if we only share the same beliefs, or same religion, or dress the same, or accumulate the same amount of wealth. But the type of community where everyone truly belongs. The kind where we can be of different races and ages and stages and paths and we are seen and received just as we are.

The type of community where the individual is honoured within the collective.

You see, the need for sameness stems from our childhood. We most often do what is required of us to be loved, accepted seen and heard based on the beliefs of our primary caregivers. And we carry on with these patterns we have learned so not to disrupt the safety of those around us, as familiarity breeds a false sense of safety.

Truthfully, we all arrive on the planet with a different blueprint, which when we don’t follow, will create struggle, stress, anxiety, self sabotage and much more in our lives.

At Raising Humanity, we believe that we all need community to move through this human experience. There are many hurdles along the way- lessons that will teach us to come more into our true selves but that which encouragement and support is required to move through. No one was meant to do this alone.

We are creating micro communities around the world that are all part of a larger global community. Within these communities, there is an opportunity to share and learn about how it is that we re connect and love authentically, rather than on the basis of sameness and the need for familiarity. It is in our acceptance of our differences that we are truly connecting. It is when we can honour the differences of one another that we are truly in community.

Community is a vital part of life, especially now where we are connecting less and less in person, where we have less support in raising our children, where our schedules are full and we hardly pause to be with the present moment, where we question ourselves and our truth because of the overwhelm on social media.
